What you'll learn
- Read commercial drawing sets and specifications, follow circuits from plans to schedules, and work safely within the commercial construction process
- Select, cut, ream, thread, join and terminate EMT, rigid, IMC, PVC and flexible raceways with the correct fittings for each location
- Lay out and bend 90° stubs and back-to-back bends using take-up, the star mark and gain
- Calculate and bend offsets, rolling offsets, kicks and three- and four-point saddles using multipliers and shrink
- Lay out segmented, concentric and parallel bends, bend large conduit with power benders, and heat-bend PVC
- Plan and carry out conductor pulls, identify conductors by colour, estimate pulling tension and test feeder insulation
- Select, support, install and bond cable tray, busway and wireway
- Size and install raceway supports and hangers, apply seismic bracing, and firestop penetrations with listed systems
- Interpret lighting quantities, install LED luminaires and drivers, lay out lighting with the lumen method, and install emergency lighting
- Install, wire and commission occupancy, vacancy, daylight and networked lighting controls, including emergency transfer devices
- Install panelboards and dry-type transformers, torque terminations, prepare panel schedules and balance phase loads
- Estimate, schedule, install, test and close out a commercial electrical project
