Your rights under OSHA

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the state plans that some states run instead, give every worker these rights:

  • The right to know about hazards in your work, including chemical safety data sheets, and to be trained in a language you understand.
  • The right to report hazards, injuries and unsafe conditions, including a confidential complaint to OSHA, without retaliation.
  • The right to refuse work that poses an imminent danger of death or serious injury, when you have asked your employer to fix it and there is no time to get OSHA to inspect.

With those rights come duties: follow safe work procedures, use the protective equipment you are given, and report hazards and incidents.
