Your three basic rights

Occupational health and safety laws across Canada, including Alberta's, give every worker three basic rights:

  • The right to know about hazards in your work and how to control them.
  • The right to participate in health and safety activities, such as committees and hazard assessments.
  • The right to refuse work you believe is dangerous, without being punished for it.

With those rights come duties: follow safe work procedures, use the protective equipment you are given, and report hazards and incidents.
