What you'll learn

  • Integrate using substitution, integration by parts, trigonometric identities and partial fractions
  • Evaluate integrals with trigonometric substitution and completing the square, and use tables, software and special functions with verification
  • Compute areas, volumes, arc lengths and work with definite integrals
  • Locate centroids and compute second moments of area and mass moments of inertia
  • Solve separable and linear first-order differential equations and apply them to draining, growth, mixing and circuits
  • Evaluate improper integrals and apply them to reliability and probability
  • Describe curves parametrically and in polar coordinates and compute their slopes, lengths and enclosed areas
  • Test series for convergence, sum geometric series and approximate functions with Taylor polynomials
  • Manipulate power series, use them for integrals and differential equations, and work with complex numbers and Euler's formula
  • Compute Fourier series of periodic functions and use them for harmonic analysis, RMS values and filtering
  • Set up and evaluate integrals for beam deflection, pipe flow, atmospheric pressure and heat conduction
  • Combine integration, differential equations and series to model and analyse engineering systems
